Belleville Urban Fire Fighters responded to multiple calls Tuesday starting with reports of a structure fire on Ridley Street.
On arrival, Fire Crews encountered light smoke from the front of the two story building, the building was evacuated and the fire quickly brought under control. An Aerial ladder was set up at the rear of the structure as a precaution and additional off-duty firefighters were called in to assist with the fire. The building is a century old home with three units, all occupants have been temporarily displaced.
There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters, damage is estimated at approximately $50,000. The cause has been determined accidental in nature.
At Approximately 11:00 am crews were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on North Front Street, air bags had deployed and one person transported by EMS to hospital.
Just after 1:00 pm, Belleville Fire Dispatch received multiple calls for a structure fire on Strachan Street. Crews arrived to heavy black smoke venting from the upper windows of a two story duplex. Fire had extended from the ground floor through voids into floor spaces and second floor as well as attic. All occupants managed to vacate the building safely and there were no injuries. The Fire investigation is ongoing and no damage estimate has been made.
Before crews had finished suppression duties, at approx. 3:00 pm, another call for a third structure fire on Station street was received. A pump crew was freed up from the Strachan Street fire and responded, this fire was contained to the exterior of the multi residential unit and quickly extinguished. There was minimal damage, the cause was determined accidental, careless disposal of a cigarette.
A little after 5:00 dispatch received calls for a fire in the Boswell Street area, which turned out to be a set grass fire in a field, this was quickly extinguished and no persons present taking responsibility.
Just after 8:30 pm, fire crews attended an electrical transformer on fire on Victoria Ave., Elexicon was called to attended and remedy the arcing power lines.
