The City of Quinte West has been named as the host city for the 2024 Canada Soccer National Championships U15 Cup.
After submitting an application to host the 2023 championship late last year, it was officially announced March 18 that Quinte West has been selected as the host for the U15 boys and girls Toyota National Championships.
At Monday’s Quinte West council meeting, councillors officially approved the partnership and the wheels are in motion to bring the tournament in 2024 instead of 2023 due to COVID-19.
The tournament is expected to be a welcome boost to the tourism industry at the start of slow season when the tournament takes place Thanksgiving weekend in 2024.
The event features 24 teams and games are expected to draw up to 500 spectators per game.
The budget for the tournament is approximately $65,000 to $85,000.
Soccer Canada provides a $30,000 hosting grant and the city is expected to receive significant funding from the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board.
The estimated cost for the city is approximately $10,000 to $35,000 but that number is before any additional revenue sources have been considered such as sponsorship, banner advertising, food/vendor village and a large amount of potential gift in kind support.
The official agreement with Canada Soccer is expected to be signed soon after which a committee will be put together.
