Northumberland OPP have cleared the scene after being called to a residence in the south end of Brighton late Monday morning.
Around 11:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a distraught individual who was barricaded in a room and refusing to come out.
Police asked people to avoid the area and all traffic and pedestrians were rerouted from the area of Ontario Street, Harbour Street and Presqu’ile Parkway.
The Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit and OPP Crisis Negotiators were contacted to assist with this incident.
Around 2 p.m., the individual was safely apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to a nearby hospital for assessment and treatment.
