The groundbreaking ceremony is done and after building permits are signed off on on Monday, construction will begin on a $48 million retirement residence in Brighton.
The three-storey 124-unit building, to be known as Brighton Retirement Living, will be built on a large property along Main Street not far west of the downtown.
The owners, Jeff Mycyk and Chris Donegan, are local and the facility will be operated 24/7 by Esprit Lifestyle Communities, a division of Extendicare.
Brighton Retirement Living will offer independent and assisted living and will feature nicely appointed studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom suites, dining room, spa, fitness facilities, pub, cafe, and space for arts and crafts.
The property will be landscaped with walking trails and a large gazebo for residents’ enjoyment.
Owner Jeff Mycyk said it will be a facility everyone will be proud of, owned and built for and by locals. He thanked Brighton’s building officials and council for their expertise and support.
The head of Brighton’s building department Rick Jones said it was a pleasure to work through the approvals process with the owners to get to the point of issuing final permits.
“It’s not everyday that Brighton gets a $48 million project. This is great”, said mayor of Brighton Brian Ostrander at the groundbreaking Thursday.
“There’s a tremendous need for this kind of facility in Northumberland and we’re here to help in any way we can”, said local MPP David Piccini.
It’s expected Brighton Retirement Living will be up and running by fall of next year.
