Rick Locke, a two-time inductee of the Belleville Sports Hall of Fame has passed away at the age of 79 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Locke was known as “Mr. Quinte”, a title bestowed on him at the 50th anniversary celebration of Quinte Secondary School.
The Belleville native was an all around athlete. He was a track and field champion and won a provincial baseball championship with the 1960 Belleville Kenmores. That team is also in the Hall of Fame.
Locke helped McMaster University in Hamilton win three straight Ontario Football Championships.
He returned to Belleville and coached numerous Bay of Quinte and COSSA champions at Quinte Secondary in football, baseball and track.
Rick Locke was inducted into the Belleville Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
A private family graveside service will be held at Belleville Cemetery. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
