The kick-off for the Trenton Military Family Resource Centre’s 16th annual Invisible Ribbon Gala was held Friday with the theme celebrating all things Canadian, including military families.
After being cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, the 2021 event will be a virtual one.
A ticket to the May 8th gala will include a three-course meal delivered to your door, entertainment and a live auction.
Trenton MFRC Executive Director Tamara Kleinschmidt says money raised from the event will focus on helping military families access health care.
“So this year we’re going to utilize the funds raised to create a robust menu of supports and services for the military and veteran families moving in and out of our community and supporting them while they’re here. Being able to provide the staffing and support here to get families to be able to navigate our system in a more efficient way while they’re here.”
Kleinschmidt says military families don’t access health care through the base but rather through the community.
“Everyone’s well aware that health care resources are stretched to the absolute limits and then when you add in the extra challenge and unique lifestyle of military families coming and going in and out of our communities on a regular basis, it does add an additional stressor. Twenty-seven per cent of military families generally don’t have a primary health care physician.”
Quinte Broadcasting’s Tim Durkin will be co-hosting the event.
Dibbits Excavating and Landscape Supply is the event’s title sponsor.
Tickets are available online or by calling the MFRC office at (613) 965-3575.
