Docs by the Bay is looking to carry over its success from 2020 in bringing physicians to Quinte West.
In 2020 alone, the group managed to successfully recruit five more physicians and had six begin their practices in Quinte West.
At Monday’s Quinte West city council meeting, council heard an update on what they accomplished in 2020 and the plan moving forward.
Recruitment coordinator Paula Mason explained their focus on recruitment, retention, recognition of those that are here, and the revitalization of their website.
Mason said they’re expecting to have 40 medical learners in the community by June, and the goal is for them to eventually want to return once they’re done school. She explained how important it is that learners enjoy their time here.
“We’re already seeing some returning learners. We had a fellow in the summer who was here as a medical student two years ago when we did our community week. Mayor will remember taking a couple young men out to breakfast one morning with us and he actually returned two years later, so this past summer he returned, because we did make such a good impression on him.”
Wendy Warner, of the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, praised the group’s accomplishments despite the COVID-19 pandemic which has hampered their efforts for the past year.
According to Warner, Docs by the Bay has 32 learners, 73 qualified prospects and over 800 people in their database that are interested in being a community physician.
