The Trenton Lions Club is requesting the City of Quinte West donate $25,000 towards a project for an all-inclusive playground in Quinte West.
The Lions Club has secured a commitment of $125,000 from Lions International on the grounds that they raise $125,000 by July, and have currently raised approximately $100,000.
In a letter to the city, the Lions Club of Trenton is requesting the funding from Quinte West to close the gap to secure the matching grant from Lions International which would cover much of the approximate $600,000 price tag for the project.
The all-inclusive playground would be for people of all abilities to foster healthy and active social lives. In the letter to the city Michael Seymour of the Trenton Lions Club said this kind of equipment is lacking in Quinte West.
City staff are recommending the money be donated from the capital reserve fund and that a fundraising thermometer be installed at the site to help with fundraising awareness.
If the funds are secured, the all-inclusive playground, set to be built adjacent to Club 105 on Bay Street in Trenton, is expected to be completed in late 2021 or early 2022.
