Owner/Operator of Hubbs Sugarbush and Sweetwater Cabin Ron Hubbs says the sapping season is off to a slow start, but he’s optimistic for a good year.
The sugarbush on Rednersville Road in the county has 800 taps ready to collect sap to make maple syrup. Hubbs tells Quinte News that last year they managed just over one litre per tap, a number that he says constitutes a “really good crop.”
With regards to this season’s slow start he said that it’s likely due to residual frost in the ground from the recent cold weather.
He said that they’re going to start boiling the sap and bottling syrup soon.
You can buy Hubbs Sugarbush Maple Syrup in person at the sugarbush at 1937 Rednersville Road, Carrying Place.
