In a surprising move, the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board has announced the resignation of Director of Education Sean Monteith.
Monteith, who has held various director of education positions in Ontario since 2013 and has been with the local public school board since 2019 thanked staff students and families for allowing him to institute a “student-centered stance” in his short time here.
He says he was proud of being able to implement a new strategic plan that “enforces the principles of equity, student achievement and outcomes for all our learners”, while also praising the board for its commitment to reconciliation with First Nation partners.
There was no reason given for why Monteith is leaving, or where he’s heading next, but Board Chair Lucille Kyle thanked him for his service to the community and says a search for his replacement will begin in the coming weeks.
