UPDATE @ 4:00 p.m.:
Firefighters have been on scene for almost 12 hours after the historic Tweedsmuir Hotel burned down early this morning.
Crews from Tweed, Stirling and Centre Hastings responded to the blaze around 6:00 a.m. and as of this afternoon, were still at the site dousing hot spots.
Fire Chief Derek Little tells Quinte News they haven’t been able to begin a thorough investigation yet, but they’ve called in the Ontario Fire Marhshal to help.
Nobody was injured and damage is estimated around $1 million.
Roads in the area were expected to be reopened around 4:30 p.m., but detours could still be in place.

A landmark building in downtown Tweed was destroyed by fire Wednesday morning.
The Tweed Fire Department responded around 6:00 am to find the historic building fully engulfed in flames.
Quinte News has been told that the 2nd and 3rd floors of the building were condemned, and within the last few weeks there was a flood on the first floor which caused heavy damage.

There were no reports of injury but people living nearby had to be evacuated and a shelter has been opened for them at the Lions Hall.
Tweed/Stirling Fire Chief Derrick Little estimated the damage at well over $1,000,000 million and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in.
Stirling-Rawdon and Centre Hastings fire departments provided assistance.
Fire crews will be on scene for several hours, and a demolition crew is preparing to known down the remainder of the building.
