It has not been on the runway in Trenton for almost 18 months, however this week, it is back.
The plane used by the Prime Minister and Governor General, along with other Canadian dignitaries and political figures is back on the tarmac at Canadian Forces Base Trenton.
The CC-150 Polaris which is also known as “01,” was damaged in a hangar after it slammed into a wall in October 2019 at 8 Wing.
A military investigation found improper equipment and a lack of training were to blame for the incident which resulted in injuries to one person and millions of dollars of damage to the plane.
On October 18, 2019, the plane was being towed from the north ramp at 8 Wing to 10 Hangar at the base, a hangar which is not routinely used for that plane.
The ground crew had to swap the towing tractor, so they installed chocks, set the parking brake and disconnected from the aircraft.
During the change, the plane began moving forward and jumped the chocks, with the right engine slamming into the tow tractor, before the plane’s nose hit the hangar wall.
The investigation did not determine why the parking brake failed but notes the chocks were not authorized, and the brake training was not up to par.
