Fire destroyed a chicken coop in Belleville’s Thurlow ward in the noon hour Thursday but happily the chickens got out safely.
The Belleville Fire Department says an electric heating device started the flames in some hay around the coop which was located on Scuttlehole Road.
About $1,000 damage was done. The chickens were moved to another shelter on the property.
