Quinte West firefighters made quick work of an industrial fire in Glen Miller Saturday afternoon. Crews from Batawa and Frankford halls responded around 2 o’clock to the
Sonoco paper mill between Trenton and Batawa.
Workers decommissioning the plant, which has been out of production since last summer, were welding as they worked to take apart equipment when flames accidentally spread into
walls in the area.
The fire was doused quickly.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says eight workers were on scene at the time with one being treated on scene for smoke inhalation by Hastings-Quinte paramedics.
Thirty firefighters responded to the mill as did crews from Hydro One.
