The Prince Edward County Chamber of Commerce has released a report on the evolving workforce in The County, with an aim on attracting and retaining workers.
The Attracting and Engaging the Evolving Workforce Strategy was put together alongside The County Workforce Partnership, which includes various stakeholders in the local business community.
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lesley Lavender says it “highlights opportunities and initiatives to address current challenges to support strong economic growth” in The County, looking at a five year window.
“We were working together to look to identify workforce needs and the evolution of Prince Edward County, and where we were growing to. We were just looking to research jobs of the future and look outside of just tourism and seasonality, and look to grow and develop Prince Edward County’s workforce.”
Lavender says says the report identified a number of opportunities to help spur economic growth moving forward.
“There were some pretty amazing opportunities that were highlighted in this strategy, that I think are outside of what you would immediately think of. There’s lots of interesting opportunities in agriculture, the gig economy, remote working.”
She adds that she hopes the report will help encourage others around the community to join the local workforce, to help fight off the adverse effects of the pandemic and “to lay the foundation for growth and prosperity for the future”.
