The Quinte West OPP has diverted over 1,000 collisions to its Collision Reporting Centre (CRC) since its opening.
The Quinte West OPP CRC was opened in September 2018, and is one of 13 CRCs strategically placed across the province.
The CRC allows for drivers to report collisions where there is no significant damage to the vehicles, and no serious injuries to any of the drivers involved.
In a minor collision, drivers can clear their vehicles quickly and safely off the highway, keeping traffic flowing and reducing the chance of secondary collisions which can result in injuries or death.
Drivers can then exchange information and report the collision to a CRC within 48 hours of the collision.
The CRC provides a more effective use of police resources, while allowing front line officers to focus their efforts on other policing functions.
You can attend a Collision Reporting Centre if the collision did not involve:
- death or any injuries that require transport to a hospital
- a driver that failed to remain at the scene
- any vehicle carrying dangerous goods
- any suspected criminal activity (impaired driver, stolen vehicle)
- any driver that refuses to cooperate with the required exchange of information
- any municipal, provincial or federal vehicle
- damage to the highway property or private property
- a cyclist or pedestrian
If you have been involved in a collision in Quinte West that meets the criteria above, and you are unsure if you can attend a Collision Report Centre, contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
