The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board is taking steps toward more affordable local child care.
At Monday’s board meeting, the school board will go over the details on an application to the Ministry of Education’s Early Years Capital Program, which is aimed at making childcare more affordable.
The school board is applying for approximately $4.5 million in funding for three new child care locations at York River Public School, Prince Charles Trenton and Centre Hastings Secondary, all to be opened by 2023.
Currently there are three HPEDSB preschool aged child care programs with the The Hub at Massassaga-Rednersville School, the Stirling Co-operative Nursery “Little Sprouts” at Stirling Public School and the Quinte Child Care Centre at Park Dale School which combine for 135 spaces.
If the application is approved consultation will begin.
