Residents of H.J. McFarland Memorial Home in Picton may not be able to go out but they still were able to head to a drive-thru this week.
Recreation & Volunteer Services Supervisor Danielle Preston and her team set up a “pop-up” Tim Hortons drive-thru at the home on Wednesday.
Preston says it started as a small idea that grew with the help of the Picton Timmys.
“Tim Hortons here in Picton gave us the sign that says ‘Tim Hortons We’re Open’ and we added the little drive-thru note and they gave us the hat and the apron and the little chef’s coat that we could wear to make it all the more realistic and then we moved the furniture out of the way so that residents could actually have the full effect of coming up to the ordering window and then going around to the next window and actually picking up their order.”
Residents loved the idea.
“Going to Tim Hortons prior to long term care is a great part of many of their lives. They meet their friends there, they have their morning coffee, you know they read their newspaper. So being able to recreate that in the long term care home, it brought back a lot of reminiscing and a lot of being to place their order and sit and have their coffee and chat in a special way.”
