The City of Quinte West is taking a proactive approach with regards to the waiving of parking fees moving forward.
At Tuesday’s council meeting, councillors elected to automatically trigger the waiving of parking fees in the event of another provincial stay-at-home order.
When the COVID-19 pandemic first caused shutdowns in early 2020 and again in January 2021, councillors waived parking fees throughout Quinte West when provincial restrictions were tightened. With the Hastings Prince Edward public health unit region having moved into a green zone on February 10, the waiving of parking fees was lifted.
This approach ensures it happens immediately as opposed to having to wait for it to be approved by council at a meeting.
In the event of parking fees being waived, the information will be released on the city website.
