OPP are putting out a reminder that if you come across what appears to be a piece of military grade equipment, like flares, ammunition or explosives, don’t touch them.
The warning comes after someone found a World War II era mortar round while they were doing renovations and brought it to the Brighton OPP detachment.
Police had to close off entrances to the building and contain the area until armed forces personnel were able to come and remove the mortar.
Authorities say those old devices could still detonate, so if you find one, you should leave the area and contact police so their trained experts can handle the situation, or as they did in this case, contact the military to take care of it.
