Quinte West OPP may have prevented tragedy on the 401 Highway Thursday night.
Around 8:30 last night, police responded to a call about a vehicle on the left shoulder and partially in the roadway near the Trenton ONroute on the westbound 401.
There was no one in the vehicle when officers arrived.
An 87-year-old male was located nearby walking along the shoulder of the highway.
One lane had to be closed for a short period of time to allow for the removal of the vehicle and in order to safely locate the driver.
He was transported to the Quinte West OPP detachment where he was reunited with family members.
