A local hotel owner says they are being careful, but they can only control so much, when it comes to those travelling during COVID-19 times.
Williams Hotels has three properties in Belleville, and now that the region has become a COVID Green Prevent Zone, more visitors could be coming from centres that have more restrictions. The province does not want this.
Co-owner Ryan Williams says they have protocols and a safety plan in place for staff and guests, and they are vigilant with Personal Protective Equipment.
He says one of the challenges is that guests need to be honest with the reason for their visit and about where they are from.
Williams says often hotel rooms are booked via email, or a third party site, and staff may not know if someone is visiting the region from a Stay-At-Home area.
Only essential workers are allowed from other areas, however Williams says it is difficult for the hotel industry to police that.
He says any penalty handed down should be on the guests if they are being dishonest, not the hotel.
