Two people were arrested and a loaded handgun was seized during a traffic stop on Highway 401 in Napanee.
Just before midnight on January 29th, Lennox and Addington OPP stopped a vehicle which was travelling at a high rate of speed.
One occupant of the vehicle was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun.
All the vehicle occupants were placed under arrest and transported to the L&A County detachment where the vehicle driver was later released unconditionally.
A 20-year-old Kingston resident has been charged with:
- Knowledge of Unauthorized possession of a Firearm
- Occupant of a Motor Vehicle knowing there was a Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm obtained by crime
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
- Possession of Proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Two counts of Possession of Prohibited device or ammunition for Dangerous Purpose and
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition contrary to a Prohibition Order
As well, a 19-year-old Scarborough resident has been charged with:
- Knowledge of Unauthorized possession of a Firearm
- Occupant of a Motor Vehicle knowing there was a Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm obtained by crime
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
- Possession of Proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Two counts of Possession of Prohibited device or ammunition for Dangerous Purpose
Both accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date.
