Hastings Prince Edward Medical Officer of Health is pleased with the way schools are operating safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following Wednesday’s Board of Health virtual meeting, Dr. Peter Oglaza said the school system is working well and has a low case count.
Oglaza doesn’t immediately see any necessity for the testing of school children.
It’s an outbreak, it’s an exposure, absolutely yes, we’ll set up as needed but if it’s normally an operation, very low disease activity and there’s no role for that indiscriminate testing.”
He pointed out vaccine is not approved for children under 16.
He also emphasized they haven’t seen the virus transmission in schools.
Oglaza points to statistics that show schools have been safe.
