A mayor in a northern community has become Hastings County’s Deputy Warden.
Mayor Bonnie Adams of Carlow-Mayo was elected at a meeting of County Council on Thursday.
In her pre-election address, Adams said she believes in connecting with communities.
“On this historical occasion…my belief is this world is about connecting with community and representing the values of Hastings County so that we are present from the north to the south wherever and whenever we are needed. Warden Phillips has worked hard to ensure every community has enjoyed his focused attention. If elected I will work in partnership with His Honour.”
“…to support our county values at a time when people need to know we’re here so, so together we will get through this horrible time in history.”
Warden Rick Phillips noted that Adams was not only the first Deputy Warden but the first woman Deputy Warden.
Adams was Reeve of the township from 2010 to 2020, when the title was updated to Mayor early in that year.
