A downtown Belleville business appears to now be open for curbside pickup after the owner received a fine and court summons for opening his doors to customers last week.
A sign on the front door of Park Provisioners Barber Shop and Haberdashery suggests the business will be open for curbside service Wednesday morning.
The owner of the Front Street store, Kyle Thomson, received a $750 ticket from Belleville Police and Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Enforcement Officers shortly after opening to the public last Wednesday.
They returned to serve him a court summons while he was open on Thursday.
In a Facebook post issued on the weekend, Thomson thanked people for their support and said he feels they’ve made some headway going forward.
He also said, “We have agreed to a hearing with the courts and other officials where we may be able to come to concessions on a few things for one side or the other. In exchange I will not open my doors fully this Saturday but will be open for curbside pickup. This may sound like a step back to some but I guess this will allow us to see if certain individuals truly have our best interest at heart and understand the difficult situations so many of us are in.”
Thomson, who declined to speak with Quinte News on Tuesday, previously said the lockdown on small business is doing far more harm than good and is ruining people’s lives.
He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offences Court on March 1, 2021.
