The Special Investigations Unit says it has terminated its investigation into an incident in Trenton earlier this month where a 27-year-old man suffered a serious injury during an interaction with police.
In an update on Friday investigators say the original complainant told police he had been threatened by a man, who said he was on his way to their farm and when officers arrived at the scene, they found the man on the roof of a building on the property.
According to the SIU, police tried to get the man to come down safely, but instead he slipped while trying to jump, then fell onto a lower-level roof, before eventually hitting the ground and fracturing his pelvis.
SIU Director Joseph Martino says based on the preliminary investigation “it is evident there is patently nothing to investigate as far as criminal liability of any police officer” and that “the man is alone responsible for his injury”.
The suspect in the case was charged with uttering threats and nobody else was injured.
