Theft of a Monstrance from a Local Church
On January 19, 2021 at 9:20 p.m., police attended St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church on Church Street regarding a report of a theft. Upon arrival, police conducted an investigation and learned that a Monstrance was stolen from the church sometime between 8:15 and 9:15 p.m. this date. The Monstrance is a very meaningful item to the church and this incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact Cst. Mischief Charges in the Downtown Core
On January 19, 2021 at 10:50 p.m., police, while patrolling the downtown core on Front Street, observed a male causing mischief, by means of graffiti, to a sign belonging to one of the businesses. Police prevented the continuation of the offence by placing the male under arrest for Mischief under $5000. The Belleville male was identified as 27-year-old Matthew Buckaway. He was released on an Appearance Notice where he was given a court date of February 18, 2021 to face the charges.
Breach of Probation, Extortion & Criminal Harassment Charges
On January 19, 2021 at 10:25 a.m., police received information that a male was harassing a female who was staying in the City of Belleville. Police conducted an investigation and swiftly located the suspect male in the area of North Park Street and Bell Blvd. As a result of the investigation, police arrested the 39-year-old male, who is not from the Belleville area, for Breach of Probation, Extortion and Criminal Harassment. The male was transported to the Belleville Police Service where he is being held for bail.
