The Belleville Police Service responded to 56 calls from January 13, 2021 at 5 a.m. to January 14, 2021 at 5 a.m.
Charged for sounding false alarm
On January 13, 2021 at 8:57 a.m., police attended to an apartment building on Haig Road to follow up on a matter from earlier in the morning. Police were notified of a person, caught on interior surveillance cameras, to have sounded the fire alarm within the building. This was a false alarm as there was no fire. This had occurred earlier on January 13 at approximately 4:30 a.m. The concluding investigation resulted in the arrest of 33-year-old city woman Cynthia Ann Faye Newnham. She was charged with public mischief and sounding a false alarm of fire. Newnham was released from custody on an appearance notice to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on February 11, 2021.
Liquor arrest
On January 13, 2021 at 7:40 p.m., police were called to an address on Bridge Street East for a report of a male yelling and trying to fight with people. This investigation resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old city man. He was arrested under the authority if the Liquor Licence Act for his own protection, and for the protection of others. There were no injuries reported. The man was transported to the Belleville Police Service, and lodged into a holding cell to await a sober release later the next morning.
Traffic stop leads to arrest
On the early morning hours of January 14, 2021 at 12:45 a.m., police conducted a routine traffic stop in the North Front Street and Strachan Street area. An investigation led police to a quantity of cash within the motor vehicle. The male driver was also a suspended driver within the province of Ontario. Arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime – under $5,000 and driving while suspended was 27-year-old Devon Brumble of Scarborough, Ontario. Brumble was transported to the Belleville Police Service and later released on an undertaking with strict conditions and a court date set for the Ontario Court of Justice on February 11, 2021.
