People in Prince Edward County may soon be able to properly lay their pets to rest.
At Tuesday’s council meeting, councillors decided they will begin exploring putting a pet cemetery near Glenwood Cemetery in Picton. The possibility of revenue and the apparent demand helped councillors decide to look into the idea.
Councillor Mike Harper said he spoke with Cemetery Advisory Committee chair Sandra Latchford.
“Lots of people asking about this. My question to her is there really a demand for this? That’s how the conversation went. She said, “Absolutely there is a demand.” As the CAO explained, people want to be buried with their pets or their pets with them and that’s not allowed.”
If council decides to go ahead with the project it could be finished by the end of summer according to Clerk Blumenberg.
