The budget for the Waste Services Board will see a 7.5% increase this year.
At Monday’s Quinte West city council meeting a budget of $3,120,553.40 was presented to reflect the projected 11,423.49 tonnes of waste.
Leading the way was Belleville with 3,794.25 projected tonnes accounting for $1,036,475.76 of the budget. Quinte West in second projecting 3,386.80 tonnes for $925,171.78 and Prince Edward County third projecting 2,419.12 tonnes for $660,830.74
Quinte Waste Solutions Finance-Operations Manager MaDonna Howell said the increase in online shopping led to far more fibres and cardboard being put out for recycling this year and reminded people to cut down big cardboard boxes before putting them out.
