Four people, one of them an inmate at Bath Institution, have been charged following an attempt to smuggle contraband into the prison.
Last Tuesday (Jan. 5), the OPP-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad assisted by members of the Lennox and Addington OPP, located and arrested three individuals near the federal institution.
Investigators, working with Correctional Service of Canada staff, seized a quantity of loose tobacco, cannabis, cell phones and other items, with a total institutional value of more than $32,000.
Two people in their late twenties from Vaughan and a 29-year-old from Toronto have each been charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
They’ve been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court in Napanee on March 9.
A 25-year-old inmate of the facility, Shaquwone Rose was also charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and participation in a criminal organization.
The investigation is continuing.
