There are still a lot of details to be worked out, but the American Hockey League says it is still targeting a February 5, 2021 start to the upcoming season.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the league says its Board of Governors has “approved the structural framework for an AHL season” and that “details are still being worked out”.
AHL President and CEO Scott Howson says the decision “allows our teams and their National Hockey League partners to better determine their plans for the coming season”.
There have been rumours that not all 31 teams in the AHL will play this season due to financial constraints and other issues, but no decisions on that have been made yet.
The National Hockey League is set to begin its shortened season on January 13, 2021.
