It was an innocent case of mistaken identity.
Belleville and Prince Edward County firefighters, Belleville police, and Hastings-Quinte paramedics all rushed to the frozen Bay of Quinte around 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, after people reported two people waving their arms out on the ice, off Meyers Pier.
According to scanner monitor Scan-Quinte, Belleville Police launched a drone into the air to survey the frozen bay in the area while firefighters prepared for an ice rescue.
Nobody was seen on the ice and there were no markings indicating a problem.
According to the Belleville Fire Department, it was confirmed that what the people were seeing were two big bald eagles out on the ice, spreading their wings.
