Some smart moves on the stock market are paying off for the Belleville General Hospital Foundation.
Chris and Shirley Van Steen, of Carrying Place, bought some stock at a low price and after it jumped significantly, the couple decided to donate $30,000 to the BGHF.
The Van Steens made the donation after Chris had a number of hip surgeries at BGH and wanted to make sure that others could receive the same quality of care in the future.
BGHF Executive Director Steve Cook pointed out that donating stocks is just one other way that residents can give back to the foundation, which has a broker to help facilitate those types of donations.
