The local COVID-19 numbers in Hastings-Prince Edward today are fairly encouraging, but less so in Northumberland.
HPE Public Health is reporting two new cases today, with a total of 30 active, meaning two people have recovered as well.
Both new cases were found in Quinte West and the transmission cause of both is listed as pending.
The seven day case rate per 100,000 people has dropped to 17.2.
There are currently three outbreaks underway in HPE, including the Trenton Walmart, Seasons Retirement Residence and another unnamed business in Belleville, with two people also in hospital because of the virus.
In Northumberland County, the HKPR Health Unit is reporting 16 new cases, for a total of 49 active.
Meanwhile, the Ontario Government has announced a province-wide lockdown starting at 12:01 a.m. on December 26, 2020.
The strict measures mean schools across the province will move to online learning from Jan. 4 to Jan. 8, after which students will return to in-person learning depending on their location and grade level.
Childcare centres across the province will remain open during the lockdown.
The measures also mean all non-essential businesses must close, and essential businesses that remain open will have strict capacity limits in place.
Restaurants will be limited to take-out or delivery services only.
No indoor public events or social gatherings will be allowed, except with members of the same household.
The lockdown will last in southern Ontario until January 23, 2021, and January 9, 2021 in northern Ontario.
