The Trenton Golden Hawks and Lindsay Muskies are just a few hours away from heading home for Christmas, however they were all business in the first game of a two-game mini series dubbed The Fish Bowl (presented by Fast and Fussy – Sandra Hussey).
Both teams had no trouble finding the back of the net in the first 20 minutes. The G-Hawks would strike first. Stefan Dobrich came out from behind the net and fired it behind Belleville native Ethan Fraser. Phil Caron, the newest member of the G-Hawks, assisted on the goal at 3:53.
It would not take Lindsay long to tie it up. Jakob Morier received a pass from Stavros Rigas and ripped it off the blocker side post behind Joe Ranger. It was Lindsay’s third shot of the game. Lindsay would strike again on the power play. Mathieu Lapierre would pick up the rebound and put it past Ranger, with assists going to Rigas and Logan Maunder at 14:16.
Trenton would tie things up less than two minutes later. Ryan Glazer at the top of the slot scored just inside the post, with assists going to Joel Chauvin and Julien Jacob at 16:01. To finish the period, it was a recently traded Golden Hawk that put in his own rebound. Clutching his logo in front of the Trenton bench, Zach Desmarais scored along the ice for the Muskies. He was acquired by Lindsay earlier this week. Hebert with the assist. Lindsay finished up 3-2 after 20. Shots were 16-12 Trenton.
To the second, Lindsay would not get a shot until the 12-minute mark. Those were the only shots they would get as well. Dalton Bancroft finally struck for Trenton on their 14 shot of the period at 13:38. He had Ethan Fraser down, and slid it underneath him, with assists going to Jacob Campbell and Griffen Fox. The shots in the period finished 17-2.
To the third period, where the Muskies and G-Hawks shared chances, however Ethan Fraser and Joe Ranger stood their ground. Shots in regulation were 44-22 Trenton. For two teams that have not seen much of one another, it was a feisty affair, with 10 minor penalties and two ejections, in a game with no body checking allowed.
It went to OT, 4 on 4 OT. At 1:07 Ryan Glazer came flying down the wing, and goaltender Ethan Fraser was cheating off the post. Glazer ripped it almost on the icing line, just under the bar for the game winner. Stefan Dobrich with the assist. The final 4-3.
