The Director of Education for the Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board says 2020 was a year unlike any other.
David DeSantis spoke to Quinte News about the past 12 calendar months, including COVID-19, PPE, and the changing guidelines and restrictions.
“We felt that the Ministry of Education kept on changing the targets with public health, and we understand that. As the science gets better and public health officials understood a bit more about how the virus interacts with humanity, targets started changing and we had to redo plans.”
“Most of the board staff and senior staff did not have holidays over the summer and we have been going full tilt. The key obviously was the health and safety of staff and students and making sure that our Catholic learning communities were not going to be spreaders. That we were were going to protect our family if you will, when they come into our school.”
He says the 2019-20 year finished with a surplus, however the upcoming year they will be in the red, like many other boards across the province and the country.
