An 18-year-old from Stouffville is facing a long list of charges after a traffic stop on the eastbound Highway 401 yesterday afternoon.
Lennox and Addington OPP officers stopped a speeding driver in Tyendinaga Township and saw what appeared to be unmarked tobacco products inside the car.
A further search led to roughly 14,000 cigars, valued at approximately $52,000, along with marijuana, credit cards, a licence that didn’t belong to the driver and a hunting knife.
The vehicle was seized and Charankan Kirubaharan was arrested and charged with a dozen offences including:
- Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco
- Failure to comply with release order
- Possession of a Stolen Credit Card
- Possession of an identity document
- Possessing Cannabis for the purpose of selling
- Possession of over 30g of dried Cannabis in a public place
- Unlawful purchase of Cannabis
- Person under 19 years in possession of cannabis
- Drive vehicle with cannabis in open baggage
- Possession of untaxed cigars and other tobacco
- Possession for the Purpose of resale
- Speeding
The driver was released with a court date on February 23, 2021, in Napanee.
