It’s no secret that COVID-19 dominated the headlines in 2020 and the MP for Bay of Quinte says the pandemic also took up most of the work done by the Federal Government as well.
Neil Ellis spoke to Quinte News looking back on the past year and says while the pandemic has had a devastating impact on many people and businesses, his riding has been resilient in dealing with the virus, thanks to teamwork from residents, businesses and all levels of government.
“We need to thank our essential workers. Whether nurses, doctors, emergency or grocery store workers, we wouldn’t have been able to get through this pandemic – and we are still in it – without them. Not only the community and everybody pulling together, all three levels of government have worked together and that has been nice to see.”
Ellis added that the Liberal Government’s response to COVID-19 has helped many people and businesses to weather that unique storm and says the Fed’s quick work to invest in support systems made a huge difference in helping people and businesses get by.
Looking ahead he says, naturally, the vaccine rollout is a key to moving forward and credited his government for its ability to acquire “the most diversified portfolio of vaccines in the world”.
He says the pandemic also shed more light on the need for better broadband internet and cell access in rural parts of the riding, which will be a priority moving forward, once things start to return to normal.
