Even through the pandemic, employees at Procter & Gamble’s Belleville plant have rallied together to make another sizable and generous donation to the United Way of Hastings Prince Edward.
P&G staff presented a cheque for $320,000 on Tuesday afternoon, which will go directly towards the local United Way’s ongoing annual campaign.
Plant Manager Mutazz Akour says supporting the United Way and the community is an integral part of working at P&G, and there was no hesitation from staff when that call came again, even during this unique year.
“We’re here to produce the best products for our consumers but also we are here to support the community that we live in, it goes hand in hand. We recognized early when this pandemic hit that there’s a lot of groups in our community that will be impacted and that’s actually the motive for our employees to stand up and offer even more than typical.”
United Way Hastings Prince Edward Executive Director Brandi Hodge says the employees at P&G never disappoint.
“Procter and Gamble is just a leader in this community, has been a leader for the United Way campaign for so many years and $320,000 is just an incredible achievement, during a pandemic when there have been so many other priorities for so many other places. We just can’t do it without them.”
Hodge added that since they started closely tracking donations in 1991, P&G has donated more than $8 million to the United Way.
She says that because of the pandemic they decided not to set a campaign goal this year, but Tuesday’s donation brings their total raised this year close to $1.5 million, which is on pace with last year to this point.
