Local food banks, like all charitable groups are working double time to get ready for the holidays and for winter.
During the pandemic, people have shown a lot of generosity to Gleaners Food Bank, The Tri-County Warehouse, the Brighton Fare Share, and Trenton Care and Share Food Bank.
Al Teal manages the Trenton Food Bank, and says they are planning for the tough times ahead.
“We’re preparing for when government grants and all the money that government has been giving out, when it is gone, people are going to be finding it hard. Then there are people out there who will not be going back to jobs, people are going to be on unemployment. They don’t need to go hungry.”
Gleaners and Tri-County Spokesperson Sarah Kring says they have staple items needed again and again.
“Peanut butter, dried pasta, canned pasta sauce, macaroni and cheese, canned tuna/salmon, canned vegetables, canned fruit, apple juice, pork and beans, sugar free/gluten free items, and hygiene products are our top 12.”
