As is the case just about everywhere online, cybercrimes are increasing steadily in the Quinte region.
A report on cybercrime released by Statistics Canada Tuesday shows the number of such crimes jumped from 17 in 2017 to 68 in 2019.
On a per 100,000 population basis the number of incidents increased from 34 to 60.
These rates remain considerably lower than those found in the Kingston and Peterborough regions where the cybercrimes per 100,000 population were 93 and 177 respectively.
The Belleville Census Metropolitan Area includes Belleville, Quinte West, Tyendinaga, and Stirling-Rawdon.
