A Picton man has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to a number of charges on Tuesday.
Quinte News has learned Paul King pleaded guilty in Picton court to five charges on Tuesday, including administering a noxious substance (brake cleaning fluid), use of a firearm while committing an offence, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and breach of recognizance.
He was appearing at a preliminary hearing and chose to plead guilty instead of going through a full trial.
In February this year, Prince Edward County OPP were called to a serious assault where the female victim was airlifted to a Kingston hospital with life-threatening injuries.
King, 52 at the time of his arrest, was originally charged with attempt to commit murder, using violence to prevent a person from receiving medical care, forcible confinement, failing to provide the necessaries of life, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and multiple counts of assault.
A joint submission of six years was sought for the crimes and the judge gave the 52-year-old a credit of 18 months time served against his sentence for a total of four and half years behind bars.
The judge also ordered King to provide a DNA sample, he was given a lifetime weapons prohibition and a non-communication order with a number of individuals while in jail.
