Quinte Health Care’s surgeons and other medical staff continue to whittle down the backlog in surgical procedures that occurred when non-urgent surgeries were paused during the pandemic lockdown in the spring.
QHC Chief of Staff Dr. Colin MacPherson said with the exemplary cooperation of physicians and others, extra operating room time has been scheduled on weekends and on holidays.
If all goes well an extra 200 procedures could be done in coming months.
However, Dr. MacPherson cautioned QHC’s Board of Directors that such a packed surgery calendar will cause stress on staff and plans could have to be changed, especially in the new year.
