Falsely claiming you have COVID-19 to avoid a ticket didn’t work out for one man.
Lennox and Addington OPP stopped a vehicle on the 401 near Shannonville Road on Tuesday after observing plates that were not authorized to be on the vehicle.
The 22-year-old from Ohswken, Ontario claimed he had COVID-19 once stopped.
Paramedics attended the scene and after an hour, the investigation revealed the driver falsely stated he had the virus in an attempt to avoid a ticket.
The G1 driver is charged with driving on a prohibited highway, unaccompanied by a qualified driver, operating an unsafe vehicle and plates not authorized for a vehicle.
The charge for obstruction under the Quarantine Act, was downgraded to a warning.
