With many more people shopping online these days, Prince Edward OPP are putting out some tips to avoid being a target of “porch pirates”.
The name is given to thieves who take delivered packages from people’s front doorsteps.
Among the tips released today, police say you should request a signature for packages that are delivered and track deliveries online so you know when they’re supposed to arrive.
They also suggest having the package shipped to your workplace, or to a trusted neighbour if you know you won’t be home, or to opt for in-store or curbside pick-up when possible.
You can also install doorbell or surveillance cameras to track activity around your home, or request through your courier that the package be left out of sight, or at a rear door.
If you do have a package stolen, or see suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, you should call police.
