The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte say their COVID-19 Response Team has been notified of a confirmed case of COVID-19 on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
It’s the first confirmed case on the territory since the pandemic began.
A letter from the Band Council says the positive case has been linked to the travel of a member who lives on the territory.
That person has been told to self-isolate and contact tracing is underway, with the MBQ Community Health Team reaching out to anyone who is identified as a close contact.
The letter notes that a positive case “causes concern and anxiety” and is asking everyone to keep track of where they’ve been over the last couple of weeks and “to remain diligent to protect our most vulnerable people and prevent the virus from spreading throughout our community”.

The case on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory falls under federal jurisdiction and doesn’t not get counted within the numbers from the Hastings-Prince Edward Public Health catchment area.
