Hastings-Prince Edward Public Health officials are advising people having unprotected sex to get tested for sexually transmitted infections, as a gonorrhea outbreak which was declared in June, continues.
The Health Unit says 48 cases of gonorrhea were reported between January and September, which is more than all of last year, when just 35 cases were reported.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Piotr Oglaza says the local rates of syphilis and HIV are also increasing, so they’ll be raising awareness of the need to get tested for STI’s and to use condoms, over the coming weeks.
