If your baby is approaching its first birthday, it’s time to have that first dental checkup. That’s the word from the Hastings and Prince Edward Health Unit. Spokesperson Catherine Willock says parents should also switch to water instead of juice or milk, if they offer their babies a night bottle or “sippy cups.” She says that could result in an acid attack on the teeth, and even milk contains sugar. Health officials used to recommend a first dental appointment before the age of three, but provincial standards now say before the child’s first birthday.
